Zero Resistance Living – Theatre of Your Mind

One of my all time favorite exercises that I learned from Dr. Maxwell Maltz of Psycho-Cybernetics fame is called the Theatre of Your Mind.

I officially learned this exercise about 6 years ago when I purchased Dr. Maltz’s entire course called Zero Resistance Living. This is the course that Dr. Maltz was working on, but never published. Years later after his death it was published for all the world to reap the benefits.

Out of all the courses I have ever bought on personal development, the mind and its functions, and prosperity, this is by far one of the best. It dives deep into the self-image and the understanding that you cannot do ANYTHING for any length of time greater than your self-image on that subject.

In other words, if you self-image says you can only make $50,000 per year, that is what you will get and no more. And, if you manage to get more, you will somehow lose it. Your self-image won’t let you keep it.

This works for every other area of your life, not just money and prosperity.

If your self-image says you are a baseball player that bats .250, then you will never break that mark no matter how much you practice. And, if you happen to bump over that mark for a time, it will be fleeting success.

If your self-image says you are 30 pounds overweight, then no matter what you do, you will constantly hit a wall, or somehow, some way self-sabotage yourself.

One of the best exercises, and one that is found in chapter 1 of the Zero Resistance Living course, is the Theatre of Your Mind.

I never really thought about it, but I had used the concept my whole life. Actually, any good athlete does. You must see what you want to accomplish perfectly in your minds eye before you can ever expect it to happen in real life.

I remember going over and over in my mind different sporting skills.

Things like serving a crushing ace in tennis, making ankle breaking cuts as a running back in football, jumping high over the other players to rip a rebound out of the air, and getting an amazing jump in the 100 meter dash, that nobody could possibly catch me.

My mind would wander for hours and hours.

And you know what I remember happening? It worked. It flat out worked. There were so many times I would make a particular move, and it would literally happen in real life. I had done it hundreds or even thousands of times before in my head.

So here is the Theatre of Your Mind.

Close your eyes and imagine yourself in a movie theatre.

You are sitting in the seat watching a scene of your life play out. See it in full color as if you were watching a real movie. Watch the different characters in the story.

Now, when you have made this image very vivid, step into the movie. Now look at it from a different perspective. Look at it as if you were doing everything in real life. You are now literally playing the part.

Do this over and over again, strengthening everything you would like to have happen in real life.

This is one of the most powerful things you could ever do. Keep seeing yourself succeeding, literally strengthening your self-image in the process.

The more times you see yourself succeeding, the more those pathways are strengthened in your brain.

This is just one of many of Dr. Maltz’s teachings in the Zero Resistance Living course. If you don’t own it I highly recommend investing in it. There is no fluff, or new age ideas. Everything is straight to the point, and very powerful. After all, Dr. Maltz was a plastic surgeon for many years. He is a man of science.
