A young track runner came to me after being in the hospital at least 7 times in the previous 3-4 years.
She had been battling pancreatitis off and on.
She had been to many different specialists over the years. Different hospitals and had tons of blood work run.
Each time she had a pancreatitis attack her triglycerides would be in the 1000’s to 2000’s.
Getting no answers in those years, her nurse practitioner referred her to me.
Her mom relayed to me that the medical doctor’s were saying the high triglycerides were causing the pancreatitis. But, I told her this was unlikely. And was probably the other way around.
The high triglycerides were a result of something else.
Because she was a thin track runner, the usual causes of high triglycerides went out the door. Poor diet, being overweight, diabetes, excessive alcohol, cigarettes, etc.
As soon as I heard her story I knew exactly what was the most likely culprit. But I really wanted to show them in concrete evidence.
I requested all of her labs over the previous years.
When the giant stack showed up in my mailbox I tore through it crossing my fingers the medical doctors ran the CBC WITH the Differential.
Most of the time when I read labs, the Differential is omitted. This is the breakdown of the 5 types of white blood cells. We look at the percentages of each to get clues on what the immune system is trying to fight.
And sure enough, they actually ran them.
And what I saw was right on the money with what I thought was going on with her…..
A viral infection that was likely stressing the pancreas.
Her Monocytes and Lymphocytes were very high on ALL the previous tests. About 6 different blood draws.
When you search “chronic pancreatitis viral” you will see a list of potential viruses.
- Mumps virus
- Epstein-Barr virus
- Hepatitis viruses
- Coxsackievirus
- Echoviruses
- Cytomegalovirus
- Measles virus
- Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
- COVID-19
I’m no immunologist and I didn’t diagnose her with any virus. It was just obvious to me what was going on and the lab work backed it up.
I put her on some herbs and nutritional supplements to support her body and within a week her triglycerides were under 100 for the first time in 3-4 years.
Note: I did not give her anything to treat the virus. This is important.
- My license doesn’t allow that.
- I don’t have any desire to approach problems like that anyway. It definitely has its place in health care. We need people to do that. It’s just not my role or interest.
I’m looking to support the body in its attempts to get well. Give it the raw materials it might be missing in order to finish a job.
In this case it worked out very well.
I just wish the medical doctors had understood what those white blood cells were telling them all along. She suffered needlessly for too long.
To this date I have never seen a Monocyte count that high. It was at least 3 times the upper limit of what it should be, yet it was declared normal in their reports.
We run lifestyle labs for our patients (and anybody else who wants to run them). It’s called Nutrients RX. Check it out if you are interested. You can do these labs all on your own if you choose.
Just follow the steps.
If the CBC with Differential was not run on this girl, this would have been the panel I would have her do.
Special thanks to her Nurse Practitioner who sent her over. I’m so glad you did. Keep up the great work.
