Dental Retainer Causing Muscle Hypertonicity

More often than not I am looking for muscle weakness. However, in this case I find muscle TIGHTNESS (hypertonicity).

Long term this patient could have problems with joint pain, muscle stiffness, etc.

Note: I never tell patients to get their permanent wire dental retainers removed. I show them what is happening to their neuromuscular system before and after stimulation to the retainer. They make their own decisions. And if they do choose to get them removed, I always tell them to wear the plastic retainers at night to preserve their orthodontic investment. All three of my children had braces as well!

Recently had my first dental implant placed about two months ago, starting having finger joint and knee joint pain about a week or two after I got the dental implant. Now experiencing spasms in legs and arms randomly throughout the day. Could the implant cause this? The tooth implant site has no pain or infection.

From what I have seen, yes. It doesn’t have to even be irritated at the actual site either. It’s often a problem with how the body handles the metal. The implant is not necessarily irritating the gum. It’s irritating the nervous system, which is why it can have a far reaching effect.
