It’s absolutely incredible how many people have adrenal fatigue today.
It’s one of the most common contributing factors that need to be addressed in getting patients well. Although the medical profession doesn’t recognize functional imbalances like this, most “alternative” practitioners are well aware of adrenal fatigue.
But here is where we run into some problems…
These same practitioners treat the adrenal fatigue as if it is the core, foundational problem.
The most common therapies involve nutritional supplementation, usually with B vitamins, adrenal glandular substances, and adaptogenic herbs.
These supplements are important, but unfortunately, are usually not the underlying cause of adrenal fatigue. They will definitely give the adrenals a boost, but this is merely a band-aid approach.
In order to truly get these patients well, and keep them well, we need to look upstream.
And the upstream problem, especially in people with chronic conditions is toxicity. This toxicity could be from heavy metals (mercury, lead, etc.), biotoxins (mold, Lyme, etc.), or other environmental and household toxins.
These poisons cause cellular inflammation, which disrupts the hormones.
The whole chain from the hypothalamus, pituitary, and adrenals are affected.
In order to test how well the adrenal glands are functioning, any good doctor will do an orthostatic blood pressure test. It’s simple, yet no medical doctor does the test.
Orthostatic Blood Pressure Test
- Lie down for 3-5 minutes to calm your body and acclimate
- Take your blood pressure
- Stand up and immediately take your blood pressure
- Your blood pressure should rise 10 points on the systolic # (the upper number, i.e. the 120 in 120/80)
Now, if your blood pressure drops or is the same, you likely have adrenal fatigue. Even if your blood pressure only rises 5 points, you have under-functioning adrenals.
You may or may not have symptoms, but your body is definitely not working the way that it should, and it makes you very vulnerable to toxic insults, accidents, etc.
Now, to determine if you have toxicity, we do a Neurotoxic Questionnaire, a Visual Contrast Sensitivity (VCS) test, and lab work.
Many, many people are toxic in heavy metals, mold etc. Especially people who are coming to me for help. These people already have symptoms or a named and blamed disease like Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, etc.
Addressing the toxicity and consequent cell inflammation is imperative.
Many people WILL feel better on adrenal supplements, however, the person will NEVER completely get well until the interference of the toxicity is addressed.
One common cause of toxicity is mercury poisoning from silver amalgam dental fillings (50% mercury). This mercury constantly leaks out of the filling creating a vapor that goes directly into the brain.
Correcting Adrenal Fatigue
- Decrease cellular inflammation
- Determine toxicity
- Determine if you need your dental filling removed PROPERLY
- Follow a proper cellular detox program
- Support the endocrine system (hypothalamus, pituitary, adrenals)

Thanks Dr. Larsen for all of the information on adrenal glands. I have adrenal insufficiency, empty sella in the pituitary gland and a hypo thyroid. I was diagnosed in 2010 along with Rheumatoid arthritis and a clotting blood disorder. I am on many medications as you can imagine. Since the beginning of this year I started getting swollen all over my body mainly my legs all over with bruising all over my legs and a little on my arms now. I am getting nausea and a lot of stomach problems, fast heart rate with pain. There are so many doctors and no real solution!
