First of all, I want to say I never tell somebody to get their dental retainers removed. My job is to look for neurological weakness in the body and find the reason why. I then present the evidence and each person makes their own decision.
Practically anything can be a cause of the weakness. Bones out of place, cranial bones jammed, lack of vitamins or minerals, scars, old bone fracture sites, and yes even dental retainers and other tooth related issues.
In this case of a high school athlete, significant neuromuscular weakness was occurring from a lower jaw dental retainer.
She opted to get the permanent metal retainer removed and replaced with a plastic removable retainer she would wear at night. She reported back on her next visit that she couldn’t believe how at least 60% of her chronic upper back pain and tension was gone.
As you will see on this website, this is not uncommon. I have many stories where patients removed their retainers and the function of their body improved. Orthodontics are here to stay due to our faulty food supply creating smaller faces [look up the work of Weston Price, DDS]. However, we do need to have a greater understanding of the impact braces and retainers are having. We aren’t simply moving teeth around.
The bones of the skull need to move and pump cerebrospinal fluid.
Without proper motion they cannot do their job, creating a myriad of compensations throughout the body. And the more compensations a body has, the less efficient it is.
The teeth are hooked into cranial bones. You move the teeth, you move or jam those bones as well.
In this case the remaining 40% of her pain is coming from an neuro-endocrine system imbalance, which we are working on now by specific adjustments along with nutrition to feed her organs and glands.
Note: I never tell patients to get their permanent wire dental retainers removed. I show them what is happening to their neuromuscular system before and after stimulation to the retainer. They make their own decisions. And if they do choose to get them removed, I always tell them to wear the plastic retainers at night to preserve their orthodontic investment. All three of my children had braces as well!
