Underarm Sweat Laser Therapy: Is It A Good Idea To Stop Sweating?

So here I was driving home yesterday and I noticed a sign for underarm sweat laser therapy.

Now, this therapy is designed to get you to stop sweating.

Would you think this is a good idea?

I know, it can sometimes be embarrassing if you are out at a fancy dinner, or a party or something and you are soaking through your shirt, but the fact remains…

It’s a necessary part of life… to sweat that is.

It reminds me of one of my first patients. She was in her mid-twenties and came to me because she did not want the medical doctors to irradiate her thyroid gland (aka kill her thyroid gland).

She had high thyroid antibodies and was diagnosed with Graves Disease.

This is where your body is attacking its own thyroid gland and actually causing it to speed up.

This young woman and her husband were planning on starting a family and they were told that if her thyroid gland was irradiated, then they had to wait 2 years to start having children because of the procedure.

They did NOT want to wait.

So, in a last ditch effort, they came to me.

Like I do on every patient, I took a thorough history. I wanted to make sure to cover all the bases, and especially the BASICS.

On her intake forms she noted that she had excessive sweating. Her husband confirmed this and had her show me the sweat stained underarm of her t-shirt.

The stain was quite impressive, and it was obvious that this woman was sweating profusely.

She then said that the medical doctors were going to prescribe her some medication to STOP HER SWEATING!

Yep, pretty much back to what this new laser sweat therapy is all about.

So, I did more digging.

I asked her how often she has a bowel movement.

Normal was the answer she gave.

Well, that wasn’t good enough for me, so I asked her what “normal” was.

Are you ready for the answer?

You will be stunned.

Every 2 Weeks!

Yep, every 2 weeks she had a bowel movement. And, the only reason why she had one was because she went to McDonald’s, which caused her to have to go.

How would you feel if you had a bowel movement every 2 weeks? Do you think your body could operate at its best?

Now, let’s get back to the Basics here.

Your body gets rid of waste in a few ways.

  • Bowel
  • Breath
  • Urine
  • Sweat

And, there are a few others like the tear ducts, women’s menstrual cycles, mucus in the nose, etc.

But, the main ones are listed above.

So what do you think was happening with her?

Why was she sweating so incredibly much and damaging her thyroid?

Well, if you stop waste excretion from one route, that waste still needs to get out, doesn’t it?

So, her body did the next best thing.

It increased her sweat production to get rid of more waste and excess acid.

So here is the moral of the story.

Sweat, or feces, or urine may all be undesirable things, but we certainly wouldn’t do some type of procedure to stop ourselves from going #2, or urinating, so why would we think it’s a good idea to stop our sweating?

It’s one of the fundamental processes of life. Our bodies create waste in the form of acids that MUST be excreted or we will die.

If somebody’s body is sweating excessively…

THERE IS A REASON FOR IT.

And it’s usually a darn good one.

So what happened with the young woman you ask?

Well, we got her bowels moving within a couple of days with adjustments, good nutrition and lifestyle changes.

She started having one every single day and within a month all of her lab tests came back to normal.

She NO LONGER needed to have her thyroid gland killed. Her body began to work as it was intended to do. All I did was help her find the obstructions and remove them.

I asked her if any of her doctors (which were numerous) ever asked her about her bowel movements.

She of course, said no.

Nobody even paid attention to one of the most fundamental aspects of being alive….

….getting rid of waste.

Remember, it’s about the basics.

It’s not about the latest and greatest drug or invasive medical procedure. Those things are great when needed, but if we just get back to the basics, it’s funny how these things just aren’t needed anymore.

There are a lot of amazing new technologies in the marketplace right now. However, just make sure you stop to think about what you are doing before you do it.
